Effects of buoyancy and of magnetic forces on osmotic pressure.

چکیده
The commonly held view that the mechanism of osmotic pressure is a mass action effect at the semi-permeable membrane has recently been challenged by several authors who propose that solute molecules, in bombarding the free surface of the solution, subject the solvent to a negative hydrostatic pressure. Thus, they argue that osmotic pressure is a purely hydrostatic phenomenon. Experimental findings that they cite in support of their concept are here analyzed and shown to be consistent with the mechanism of a mass action effect at the semipermeable membrane.

Numerical Simulation of Scaling Effect on Bubble Dynamics in a Turbulent Flow around a Hydrofoil
A Lagrangian-Eulerian numerical scheme for the investigation of bubble motion in turbulent flow is developed. The flow is analyzed in the Eulerian reference frame while the bubble motion is simulated in the Lagrangian one. Finite volume scheme is used, and SIMPLEC algorithm is utilized for the pressure and velocity linkage. The Reynolds stresses are modeled by the RSTM model of Launder. Upwind ...

This work is a study of the Earths free oscillations considering a merge of solid and liquid model. At the turn of 19th century Geophysicists presented the theory of the free oscillations for a self-gravitating, isotropic and compressible sphere. Assuming a steel structure for an Earth size sphere, they predicted a period of oscillation of about 1 hour. About 50 years later, the free oscillat...
متن کاملEffects of different levels of osmotic potential on germination percentage and germination rate of barley, corn and canola. Bagher Gharoobi1, Meysam Ghorbani2 and Mostafa Ghasemi Nezhad2
Iran is located in a hot and dry region. As a result of low precipitation and a vast area of salty and alkali soil, osmotic pressure is very high in most parts of the country (i.e., osmotic potential is more negative). In the present study four levels of osmotic pressure (-0.25, -0.35, -0.45, -0.50 MPa) were created artificially, by polyethylene glycol (PEG) and treatment of three seed types, n...
متن کاملHALL AND LON-SLIP EFFECTS ON MAGNETO-MICROPOLAR FLUID WITH COMBINED FORCED AND FREE CONVECTION IN BOUNDARY LAYER FLOW OVER A HORIZONTAL PLATE WITH VISCOUS DISSIPATION
In this paper, we study the effects of Hall and ion-slip currents on the steady magneto-micropolar of a viscous incompressible and electrically conducting fluid over a horizontal plate by taking in to account the viscous dissipation effects. By means of similarity solutions, deviation of fundamental equations on the assumption of small magnetic Reynolds number are solved numerically by using qu...
متن کاملCryopreservation of Mesopotamian catfish (Silurus triostegus H., 1843) spermatozoa: Effects of diluents and osmotic pressure on spermatozoa DNA damage, rate and duration of motility
This study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of three different conditions of osmotic pressure (325, 365 and 385 mOsm kg-1) in combination with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and NaCl or glucose on spermatozoa DNA damage, rate and duration of motility. Sperm was collected from eight healthy mature Mesopotamian catfish, evaluated microscopically and pooled at 25 °C. The pooled sperm samples...
